February 2011
In a three year period, from 2008 till 2010, Bosch Sprang developed a new production method for their one-off precision components for the production of thermoforming dies. This project is funded through “OP-Zuid”, an Innovation program for the South of the Netherlands.
With the new production method we are capable of reducing the engineering and manufacturing times considerably, therefore we can be more competitive and are able to serve new markets.
Turnaround times regarding the technical design as well as the production process, such as turning, milling and grinding of precision components, are reduced. As far as purchase of materials, production planning and our measuring chamber are concerned, similar efficiencies can be achieved. A robot cell is installed which is used for testing the newly developed technology. Important for this project was also the unique R&D cooperation with an international producer from CAD/CAM software.

New Rim/Lip-Roller at Bosch Sprang Thermoforming Centre
Besides a thermoforming machine, Bosch Sprang now also has a rim rolling machine in their Thermoforming Centre. The multiple screw configuration accommodates a wide range of products and sizes.
The rim roller will be used for testing, sampling and development work. Samples for small production runs can be rim rolled after thermoforming at Bosch Sprang. By making their own screws, Bosch Sprang will continuously develop finding the optimal configuration.
Bosch Sprang can advise in product and rim design and has the right tool configuration for an optimal material distribution in the upper product rim. This is important to achieve good rim rolling qualities.
